NEW ROCHELLE, NEW YORK

New Rochelle, New York

5 Islands Park is situated on Echo Bay in New Rochelle, a protected environment that offers calm waters perfect for practicing your kayak or stand-up paddleboard (SUP) skills. Longer tours and trips may venture out into the Long Island Sound for a more stimulating experience, where you’ll find yourself paddling around small islands and under bridges, as wild shorebirds reveal themselves to eagle-eyed participants.  View upcoming activities in New Rochelle

Carl Steiniger

Position: Program Coordinator

Home Base: Ridge Hill, NY

Outdoor specialties: Kayaking; day/section hiking; fishing

Favorite outdoor memory: Arriving at a favorite fishing spot just before dawn, pouring a cup of hot coffee from the Thermos, and landing the first cast just where I wanted.

Most rewarding part of your job: On the water, it’s seeing the joy in participants faces when, after taking a course, they realize that they can paddle. With hiking, it’s finding out former participants have “graduated” to longer-length hiking groups.
