  • Can I use Bean Bucks™ to pay for an Outdoor Discovery Programs course, tour or trip?

    While you can accrue Bean Bucks by using your L.L.Bean® Mastercard® to pay for an Outdoor Discovery Programs experience, you cannot spend your Bean Bucks on any Outdoor Discovery Programs purchase.

  • Can I use an L.L.Bean gift card towards Outdoor Discovery Programs?

    Unfortunately, you may not use an L.L.Bean gift card to make an Outdoor Discovery Programs purchase; however, you can gift someone an Outdoor Discovery Programs experience by paying for a course and then sending the recipient a link to the event.

  • How do I cancel or reschedule a course?

    There are some courses that you can cancel and reschedule yourself and others that require a phone call to our customer service team. Your reservation should provide you with this information. If you have questions, you can always call our reservation center at 888-552-3261. The amount of your refund or credit towards another course will depend on the date you notify us of your need to cancel or reschedule.

  • How do I schedule a private course/trip or custom program?

    Once you submit your request online for a Custom Adventure or Private Maine Adventure Trip, one of our Adventure Consultants will call you directly to help you plan your experience. You can also call our reservation specialists at 888-270-2326.

  • Do activity sites have bathroom facilities?

    Each site is unique, but all sites (except for some of our free outings) have some type of bathroom facility.

  • Where do I put my valuables?

    All locations (except for our free outings) have a locked area where you can store your valuables while on your adventure with us.

Overnight Trips

  • What is the difficulty level of your trips?

    Our trips are rated from “Easy” to “Moderate” depending on the trip. Generally, our trips are suitable for anyone from beginners to those who are more experienced. Our guides are happy to adjust the intensity of an activity to accommodate individuals or entire groups, based on the skill levels observed.

  • Can you accommodate my food allergy?

    Yes, we can accommodate most dietary restrictions given advanced notice. 

  • Will my trip be canceled due to bad weather?

    We usually do not cancel trips due to inclement weather unless severe conditions would present an unsafe situation.

  • Will my trip be canceled due to low enrollment?

    If a trip has low enrollment, we may need to cancel your trip. If necessary, this decision will be made well in advance, and a full refund or opportunity to reschedule to another departure will be offered.

  • Do you recommend/offer travel insurance?

    Travel insurance offers the opportunity to protect your travel investment in the event you have to cancel due to unexpected circumstances. L.L.Bean Outdoor Discovery Trips has partnered with TripAssure, a licensed travel insurance provider, to ensure our participants have access to travel insurance coverage and assistance services. TripAssure offers travel protection plans, providing coverage for trip cancellation or interruption, medical/dental coverage, baggage/personal effects loss and more. 


    To purchase insurance or for more plan details, visit our TripAssure Portal or call TripAssure directly at 800-423-3632. Please let Customer Service know you are on one of our Adventure Trips, so they can help you purchase an insurance plan that’s right for you. We encourage you to review the plan details carefully as some benefits have a required time period for purchase.

  • Are pets allowed on Outdoor Discovery Program trips?

    Sorry, pets are not allowed.

  • What are your COVID-19 vaccination or testing requirements for participants on overnight adventure trips?

    Before joining us for one of our overnight adventure trips, we recommend making sure you are up to date with COVID-19 vaccines, including any booster dose(s) when eligible. If you will not be fully vaccinated by the departure date of your trip, then we ask that you test negative for COVID-19 with either a Rapid Point-of-Care test within 24 hours or a Laboratory test within 72 hours.
