Our second sea kayak course in a series of three is designed to help you improve your paddling efficiency, ability, and confidence (Sea Kayaking Skills 1 or equivalent highly recommended before participating in Sea Kayaking Skills 2). With beautiful natural surroundings and calm waters as your classroom, this information-packed day of instruction will prepare you for more ambitious kayaking adventures.
Benefiting from a small-class environment, you’ll receive expert instruction on more advanced sea-kayaking techniques, including edging, bracing, and sculling. Edging will enhance your boat handling skills like turning while underway or staying on course in a breeze. Bracing and sculling will help prevent capsizing, giving you the confidence to really utilize the edging component.
With edging and bracing practice, capsizes are bound to happen. Our experts will demonstrate some advanced rescue techniques that go beyond the paddle float rescue taught in our introductory sea kayaking course.
You'll have plenty of time to practice the basic body mechanics of these advanced paddling strokes and boat handling skills. You’ll also learn how to effectively move your kayak laterally (sideways) with some different draw strokes. By the end of this course, you will have gained an enhanced awareness of how your boat, paddle, and body work together.
